The Glycemic Index (G) - a measure that ranks carbohydrates-filled food according to their influence on blood sugar level over a period of two hours after a meal using a scale of 0 to 100. A comparatively lower GI value corresponds to a flatter curve in the rise of blood glucose level after a meal.
Refers to foods that have a Gl value of 55 or less and have a minimal impact on blood sugar levels. Consumption of low Gl foods can offer several health benefits, such as regulating blood sugar level, reducing insulin resistance and providing sustained energy. These benefits make them advantageous for individuals with diabetes or those trying to manage their weight. Additionally, low Gl foods could help in the reduction of liver fat and liver enzyme levels and reduce the risk of having nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
Refers to foods that have a moderate impact on blood sugar levels. These foods typically have a Gl value between 56 and 69. Consumption of medium GI foods can provide a level of sustained energy and may be beneficial for individuals with certain health conditions.
Refers to foods that cause a rapid increase in blood sugar levels after consumption. These foods typically have a Gl value of 70 or more. Consumption of high Gl foods can cause a quick spike in blood sugar levels, leading to a subsequent crash in energy levels and increased hunger.
